Pat Spillman to Retire with Thanks
Having served from 2004–08 in his second stint as JWHA
Journal Editor—his first tenure was 1992–94—W. B. "Pat" Spillman has given
his notice of retirement to the executive committee of JWHA. Pat will continue
as editor through the publication of Vol. 28 of the Journal this
September. Afterwards, he intends to devote more of his retirement time to his
family.
Under Pat’s guidance, the Journal has increased in
scope: Vol. 24 (2004) was 194 pages in length, Vol. 25 (2005) was 246 pages,
Vol. 26 (2006) was 344 pages, and Vol. 27 (2007) was 266 pages. It’s a testament
to Pat’s editorial talents that quantity did not come at the expense of quality.
One long-time member described Vol. 27 as containing the "most significant
scholarship" in the Journal’s proud history.
Having edited eight volumes total, Pat is the longest serving editor in the
Journal’s history. JWHA is very pleased to thank Pat for his many years
of diligent and meritorious service to the Journal and to the
association.
