Susan Skoor to Address JWHA’s 2007 Spring Banquet

Community of Christ Apostle Susan Skoor will be the featured speaker at JWHA’s 2007 Spring Banquet, to be held on March 23 in Independence, Missouri. Ms. Skoor will speak on the topic of "Women in Ministry". She presented a previous version of her this talk at the Sunstone Symposium in Salt Lake City in August 2006, to rave reviews.
 
Susan Skoor was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was raised in an Air Force family averaging a move every two years. She spent half of her first eighteen years of life overseas, in France, Japan, Spain, and England. She received a BA in Biology at Saginaw Valley University, Saginaw, Michigan, in 1973, and completed the Masters of Arts in Religion degree from Graceland University in 2002.
 
Prior to accepting World Church appointment, Susan worked 22 years for the Seattle Stake of the Community of Christ, as youth minister, secretary, and executive assistant. She has written curriculum materials for the World Church since 1980, and has published several Herald articles and one children's book. Prior priesthood calls include teacher, elder, and evangelist.
 

The 2007 JWHA Spring Banquet takes place at Ophelia's Restaurant, on the corner of Main St. and Maple St. in Independence, Missouri.
Susan became a Field Officer for the Community of Christ on September 1, 2002, assigned to Central Pacific Region as Regional Administrator. As of January 1, 2004, she was reassigned to the responsibility of Mission Center Financial Officer for Sierra Pacific Mission Center. She was ordained an Apostle at the 2005 World Church Conference and now has administrative responsibility for the Western Mission Field, which covers the western one-third of the United States plus Baja California, approximately 180 congregational units.
 
Susan currently lives in Renton, Washington and recently suffered the loss of her beloved husband John, a retired art instructor, painter, and calligrapher. She has two daughters: Marie Shipley and Christie Skoorsmith, and one grandchild, Grace Shipley.
 
The Spring Banquet will be preceded at 6:00 pm by a JWHA business meeting to allow members to discuss and vote on various items of business to the association. The business meeting is free and open to all current members of JWHA.
 
JWHA is pleased to have the opportunity to invite Apostle Skoor to address its members and the members of the Community of Christ immediately prior to this March’s World Conference.
