2011 Restoration Studies Symposium Program

The fourth annual Restoration Studies / Sunstone Midwest Symposium will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 15–16. Registration will take place beginning 5:00 pm Friday and 7:30 am Saturday. Preregister online at www.JWHA.info.

The theme of this year’s symposium is "'A Woman’s Place...' Ideas, Impacts, and Experiences of Restoration Women."

All events will take place at the Graceland University / Independence Campus, 1401 West Truman Rd., in Independence, Missouri.

(1) Wallace B. Smith Lecture (Plenary), 7:00 – 8:30 PM

"A Woman’s Place"

Presenter: Gail Mengel

In our fourth annual Wallace B. Smith Lecture, Gail will address the theme of the conference and offer her reflections on the influence of women in the history of the Community of Christ.

On March 31, 1998, Gail Mengel and Linda Booth were ordained as apostles, becoming the first women members of the Council of Twelve in Community of Christ history.

You are invited to attend an opening reception with refreshments in honor of the publication of The Persistence of Polygamy: Joseph Smith and the Origins of Mormon Polygamy, Upon the Temple Lot: The Church of Christ’s Quest to Build the House of the Lord, Volume 31 Number 1 of the John Whitmer Historical Association Journal, and Volume XII of Restoration Studies.
