Restoration Studies Symposium / Sunstone Midwest
Sponsored by JWHA, Community of Christ Seminary, and Sunstone Education Foundation

"A Woman’s Place..." Ideas, Impacts, and Experiences of Restoration Women

Plan to participate in the fourth annual Restoration Studies & Sunstone Midwest Symposium, to be held in Independence, Missouri, at the Graceland University Independence Campus on April 15–16, 2011.

We will explore the theme of: "A Woman’s Place..." Ideas, Impacts, and Experiences of Restoration Women. Women make up half or more than half the membership of churches, but their roles and impacts have sometimes been undervalued and underappreciated.

This year, we hope you will help us consider how women have shaped the church, from theological thought and ideas to practices and the lived church experience. How have women impacted the Restoration and Christianity in general, and the Community of Christ and LDS Church in particular?

We want you to share your ideas with us next year on this topic or on any aspect of theology, cultural, and religious studies. Send your one-page proposals for papers or panels along with a brief bio to our program committee co-chairs Kathy Castillo, Don Compier, and Mary Ellen Robertson via e-mail: RestorationStudies@gmail.com.

The deadline for submissions is December 20, 2010.

About Restoration Studies
The founding volume of Restoration Studies was published in 1980 to honor the sesquicentennial of the Latter Day Saint movement, which was formally organized as the Church of Christ on April 6, 1830. The journal is now published as an annual by the John Whitmer Historical Association and the Community of Christ Seminary Press. The current edition is available on Amazon.com.

The first Restoration Studies Symposium was held in April of 2007. Co-sponsored by JWHA, the Community of Christ Seminary, and the Sunstone Education Foundation as Sunstone Midwest, the symposium reaches across the Latter Day Saint movement to explore theology, cultural and religious studies.
