Race, Gender, and Ethnicity will be the
focus of our 2009 conference, which will be held September 24-27 in
Independence, Missouri.
Unfortunately, too often the history of the Restoration
is focused narrowly on the members of elite priesthood quorums at church
headquarters. Some histories of the church are almost indistinguishable in focus
from biographies of church presidents.
Please submit your proposals for articles
that will help us paint a richer picture by widening the focus beyond the elite
center by considering the impacts of race, gender, and ethnicity on the
Restoration story.
2009 is also the 25th anniversary of
Section 156 of the Community of Christs Doctrine and Covenants, which opened
the way for womens ordination to all priesthood offices.
Our Program Chair,
Jeanne Murphey, and her committee invite you to submit proposals for papers or
panels on our topic or on any topic relating to the history of the Latter Day
Saint movement.
Please send your proposal to
submissions@jwha.info. The submissions deadline is Feb. 27, 2009.
